  • Title: The Digital Touch Integrating Artificial Intelligence in Nursing Care without Compromising Humanistic Values

Abstract

Introduction: As healthcare systems worldwide undergo a digital transformation, the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and predictive analytics into nursing practice has become inevitable. However, a significant gap remains in understanding how these technological advancements affect the core tenet of nursing: humanized care. This presentation explores the synergy between high-tech tools and the "high-touch" essence of the nursing profession.
Objectives: The primary objective of this study is to analyze the impact of AI-driven clinical decision support systems on the quality of patient-nurse interactions. Furthermore, it aims to identify strategies that allow nursing professionals to leverage automation for administrative tasks while redirecting saved time toward direct patient emotional support and advocacy.
Methodology: A systematic literature review was conducted across databases including PubMed, Scopus, and CINAHL, focusing on peer-reviewed articles published between 2021 and 2026. Qualitative data from nursing focus groups regarding their perception of "digital empathy" were also synthesized.
Results: Preliminary findings suggest that when AI handles routine monitoring and documentation, nurses report a 25% increase in available time for patient education and comfort. However, the results also highlight a "technological burnout" risk if training is insufficient. The data indicates that AI is most effective when used as a complementary tool rather than a replacement for clinical judgment.
Conclusion: The integration of AI in nursing does not signify the end of bedside empathy; rather, it provides a unique opportunity to return to the roots of nursing care by automating the mundane. To ensure success, nursing curricula must evolve to include digital literacy alongside traditional care models. This presentation concludes that the future of nursing lies in a hybrid model where technology handles the data, and the nurse provides the humanity.
