Professor Orly Toren is a senior leader in nursing whose career integrates management, academia, and research. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Hebrew University of Jerusalem, a Master of Science in Management from Tel Aviv University, and an additional graduate degree in Law from Ono Academic College. She completed her Ph.D. at the University of Pittsburgh.
Throughout her career, Professor Toren has held key leadership positions at the highest levels of nursing management in Israel. Early in her professional path, she combined clinical practice with senior managerial roles, while continuously engaging in research and teaching. This integrated experience enabled her to bridge theory and practice across the full spectrum of nursing—from direct patient care to executive leadership.
Over more than three decades, she has been actively involved in national and institutional policy-making processes within leading healthcare organizations. Her senior management roles have included Director of Nursing and Allied Health Professions at Sheba Medical Center, the largest hospital in Israel, and Deputy Director of Safety and Risk Management at Hadassah Medical Center. In recent years, she has served as Director of Nursing Studies at Ono Academic College, where she led the development and advancement of academic nursing programs.
Professor Toren’s extensive leadership experience is reflected in her academic work, which focuses on nursing management, health policy, workforce issues, patient safety, and nursing ethics. Her work contributes to shaping both professional practice and national health policy, positioning her at the intersection of healthcare leadership and academic development.
